Manifest Season 4 Part 1 Explained-The Names Hold All The Clues
After Manifest Nation or Manifans, whichever you prefer, went berzerk and demanded the conclusion of the strangely compelling spiritual-science fiction drama, Netflix answered the call(ing). Of course, it might have something to do with the monster number of hours watched when the three existing seasons of Manifest dropped on Netflix. While we all were thrilled our story wouldn’t be left hanging, I was concerned the switch to Netflix would change things too much. Not only was my concern unfounded, but the product is even better than the original NBC hit.
The first part of Manifest Season 4 premiered today. The myths, symbols, and spirituality were intricately woven into a perfect tapestry of fascinating weirdness and occasional melodramatics that, if I’m honest, I kind of love. Through three seasons, careful clues were dropped, heating up the internet with theories. Finally, all that obsession and due diligence has started to pay off. Pieces began falling in place as some of our favorite theories were debunked, and others gained traction. One of the biggest hints has been hiding in plain sight, however. The characters themselves all have essential roles to play, and their names tell us everything we need to know. Here’s everything you need to know about the names in Manifest and what they mean for Season 4 Parts 1 and 2.
There will be heavy spoilers for Manifest Season 4 Part 1 so beware.
The Stones-
The Stone family name didn’t feel as important as the individual names until Manifest Season 4 Part 1. Sure, each of the respective first names held some significance, but it wasn’t until Saanvi’s and Olive’s realization that sapphires may hold the key to unlocking the passenger’s full potential. Knowing Moses and the Oracle of Delphi both used sapphires to channel the divine, the Stone’s name takes on new significance. They have consistently led the charge to protect the rest of the 828’ers and have also made it their mission to singlehandedly save the Lifeboat. They have been the rock everyone else leaned on and provided the blueprint for the future.
Now that we know the end of the world is coming, this family may hold the keys to saving the world. But they will need their courage and strength like never before if they are going to save themselves and the world. Like Noah and his calling to build a boat, the Stones have their increasingly alarming volcanic callings. The end of the world appears to be coming, and only the Stones can unite everyone to save the world.
Michaela-
The name Michaela means resembling God or a gift from God. It is the female equivalent of Michael, who was an archangel. He famously battled Satan for control over Heaven, Hell, and the human world. He was the strongest, bravest, and mightiest of all the angels. Michaela has consistently been focused and stalwart regardless of what is thrown at her. In the battle that is coming, she will no doubt be the point of the staff.
Cal-
Cal has had a rough time in Manifest Season 4 Part 1. Having aged up instantly and been delivered back to Earth right before his mother died and his sister was kidnapped was a tough blow. Making matters worse, Ben has difficulty seeing the young man as his son and is grieving the loss of Eden and Grace. Cal was the one who let Angelina back into the house, and Ben struggled with forgiving him. On top of that, Cal’s cancer is back, and the poor kid is dying. Nothing is working, and he looks to have only days left.
He is our beleaguered hero. His name means devoted and he who is able. He is certainly devoted to his cause, but I’m not sure how much longer he will be able. It is interesting to wonder, though, what he might be able to do from the glow. Maybe life doesn’t end when we die, and he could have a role yet to play.
Olive-
She is the literal olive branch of peace for the group. Like her mother, Grace, they act as the moral compass holding the family together. Despite her young age, Olive is the voice of reason and provides a constant shoulder to lean on and a keen mind to puzzle things out. Victors traditionally wore olive wreaths, so the name could be synonymous with winning. Our group needs all the help they can get.
Eden-
The Stone’s youngest child is a miracle baby conceived after Ben returned. She was kidnapped by Angelina and was held for two years. In addition, to being the name of the place Adam and Eve lived and were later expelled from, the name means delight. She is a lovely child who has taken everything thrown at her in stride. Eden has callings like the 828’ers and will continue to be at risk. She very well could be one of the last people standing.
Ben-
In Manifest Season 4, Ben is barely keeping it together. He has never given up hope that he will get Eden back, which has led him to dark places. If he was obsessed in Season 3, he is lost in Season 4. The head of the Stone household has forgotten he has children that need him at home. His anger and grief are palpable, and it isn’t until Cal’s illness comes back that he finally figures out Cal needs his Dad as much as Eden does. Ben means son of my right hand, son of the people, and most interesting, son of lightning.
In the Bible, Ben was given a blessing from his father, Jacob, on his deathbed. He was likened to a wolf and given two timelines, morning and evening. He was also given two actions, divide and devour, and two outcomes, prey and spoil. From this specific blessing, he is set up in duality as before and after. Ben’s life before flight 828 and after has been very different. In the bible, Ben’s tribe was the smallest and most prone to war. Since the group has to fight for their safety and freedom, they need him to be fierce.
Zeke-
Zeke, from the name Ezekiel, means strengthened by God. His addiction and immutable empathy test his strength in Manifest Season 4, which makes him very vulnerable. He was a prophet of God, and as someone touched by the same Dark Lightning that transported Flight 828, he doesn’t have callings like the others, but he is tapped into everyone’s emotions and thoughts. In Ezekiel’s biblical story, God warned him that he would be held responsible for those who died due to their sins. His job was to inform others of their wrongdoings and God’s will. Considering the entire concept of the Lifeboat is that of atonement and collective judgment, his very life might be at risk.
Saanvi-
Saanvi is a woman of science who has proven analytical and emotional. She is brilliant and driven and has proven deadly when necessary to protect her chosen family. Saanvi was one of three angels in the bible who was sent to protect infants and parents from the demon Lillith. We have certainly had our fair share of bad people in Manifest Season 4, but I’m guessing the worst is yet to come. So I’m curious about which aspect of her personality she will need most in Manifest Season 4 Part 2.
Eagan-
Interestingly everyone’s favorite opportunist’s name means fire. Considering that we have been shown lava, ash, and erupting volcanoes all along, it stands to reason that he would be right in the center of it. He is a mess of a person but a fascinating character because his motivations are so often self-serving. Rarely does he do anything that doesn’t benefit himself more than anyone else? After he took the Omega Sapphire and left Michaela, Leo, Thomas, and Saanvi locked in the crumbling room; he bounced to his hotel to grab his possessions and run.
Before he could leave, however, he had a communal calling where he seemed to finally realize that he needed to work with the group or perish. Before he could hand the Sapphire over to Mich, though, someone bashed him over the head and took it. Considering how vile Eagan is, it could have been anybody, but we know better. Now that the gem is in the wind again, I hope the fiery namesake is not a portent of things to come.
Angelina-
Boy, she sure turned out to be trouble. Her mother and father are nightmares who, in turn, create the opposite of an angel. It isn’t entirely her fault. She never really stood a chance with Noell and Kenneth as parents. She has choices now, but she is so fixated on Eden and stopping the Stones she can’t see the damage she is doing and continues to do. Angelina, which means angel is no angel of God. Instead, she appears to be a fallen angel who has become exactly what her parents said she would. I hate to say it, but we probably should have kept her locked in her parent’s dungeon.
Adrian-
Adrian can’t do the right thing if his life depended on it. The man who found religion after returning has struggled to make good decisions. First, he was too zealous and encouraged violence, and later, he took in dangerous people without understanding the danger he was putting everyone else in. He isn’t an evil man, just a very confused one. The name Adrian means dark one or man of the Adria or the sea. In this context, dark means handsome and moral. So far, Adrian has not proven to be the greatest moral leader but considering water is the foil to fire, I wonder what role he might play in the coming volcanic eruption.
Of additional note, Leo, Thomas’ boyfriend, is not a passenger, but his name is a Zodiac constellation. The dragon constellation, as well as many others, have been important. Jared was a descendant of Adam and Eve, and as one of the unaffected members of Team Stone, he could represent the everyman that our group needs to save. Now that Drea Troy, Dr. Bates, and Dr. Gupta have also joined the fight, the odds of saving everyone are slim. Find all our Manifest coverage here.
