The Best Thanksgiving Horror Movies On Tubi Right Now

Who would have thought Bluhouse’s Thanksgiving would be as good as it was? The hilarious gross-out movie was darn near perfect for a gory, semi-scary, wildly entertaining horror comedy. It definitely left you hoping for seconds in the form of more John Carver in years to come. With all of us preparing for Thanksgiving meals with friends and families, there is plenty of time for Thanksgiving horrors. I’m not talking about the kind that comes with the drunken uncles, political arguments, and sulking teenagers. I’m talking about the underrepresented but still rich category of Turkey Day scares.

In between wolfing down plates of mashed potatoes and pecan pie(hopefully not on the same plate), save some room for family gathering fears and cheers. Tubi’s extensive library has a lot to offer, and they don’t disappoint in the holiday horror category. Granted, the Christmas offerings are much better, but there are a few November-set movies that are worth a watch. If you are looking for some free streaming to get you into the mood, here are the best Thanksgiving horror movies to watch on Tubi right now.

Thankskilling

This one is not high cinema by any stretch of the imagination, but it is good for a laugh. If you are stuffed with turkey and maybe partaking in a little herb, this movie is for you. A group of college students over the holiday break is chased and slaughtered by a murderous turkey. It’s good, silly fun, and the vegetarians at the table will enjoy the reverse of fortunes.

Poultrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead

It’s not technically turkey, but it is very foul. A fast food joint set on an ancient buriel ground somehow zombified chickens who aren’t keen on all their brethren being fried up. It’s not scary, but it is gross and stupid, and there is something to be said for a film that knows exactly what it is and leans all the way in. The film is part horror, part comedy, and even more hilariously, part musical. It would make a great double feature with Thankskilling for obvious reasons.

Kristy

The rich tradition of empty schools over holiday breaks is put to good use in this Haley Bennett vehicle. She plays Justine, a college student left behind on a nearly deserted college campus over Thanksgiving break. She is terrorized by a cult of masked maniacs who hate Kristy’s. Kristy’s are religious women for their purposes. It is well-shot, and the sparse dialogue makes it moody and atmospheric. This is a surprisingly tense thriller and is a solid addition to any list.

Amityville: A New Generation

This very tangentially connected film in the franchise features a paranormal mirror. It isn’t nearly as impactful as Mirrors or as scary as Occulus, but if you are hellbent on celebrating the horrors of Thanksgiving, then this one will satisfy the itch, if not precisely your, desire to laugh or be scared. The now-debunked stories of The Amityville Horror are nowhere to be found here, but it is set during the holidays and is technically a horror movie. There’s a cute guy with a great head of early nineties hair, so that counts for something.

The Last Thanksgiving

There are those people who love the holidays, and then there are those who really LOVE the holidays. Such is the case with The Brimstones, a family that kills anyone who isn’t as enthusiastic about the day to give thanks as we are. This is another excellent horror comedy that shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Go into it with the right spirit, and you won’t be disappointed.

Thanksgiving is criminally forgotten in the horror community, and hopefully, with the recent Grindhouse trailer turned full-length feature, that will change. There are ways to embrace and celebrate the horrors of excess, imperialism, family dinners, and poultry slaughter that can be unexpected and tons of fun. Kristy is the only truly scary film on this list, but all of them are fun if you don’t have crazy expectations. Any of them is better than listening to the same dirty joke or ugly argument about election scandals and presidential sons. The best news is that even if you hate them, they are all free on Tubi, so you aren’t out anything but your time. Happy Thanksgiving!
