The Ark Episode 3 Get Out And Push Review And Recap- Astroids, UV Storms, And Is Lt. Garnet Superhuman?

The crew of the Ark can’t catch a break. First, they had too little water. Then they had barely any water at all. Finally, they were down to days before the water ran out. The Ark Episode 3 took those days and compressed them into hours. On a collision course with an asteroid and with no way to get their engines operating in time, things look bleak for the group. Where there’s a will, there is a way, though, and the capable minds of the Ark I are as resourceful as they are secretive. That’s just the way we like it.

By now, we know what to expect from Syfy’s latest The Ark. Vital pieces will either break or stop functioning, and a major emergency will dominate a few hours until the brilliant young people on board devise a solution and thwart a disaster. Just because we know what to expect doesn’t make it any less fun to watch these pretty people fly by the seats of their pants as they try to avoid dying or killing each other.

Ava’s decision to redirect the engine’s cooling water to the drinking tanks had dire consequences. She bought them several days but put them directly in the path of an asteroid. All of the pilfering of parts have made them vulnerable as well. With time against them, it is a race to the ship once again. Their looming deaths are only a backdrop for the more interesting plot beats. No one is who they seem, and everyone has something to hide.

There are still a lot of secrets left to discover on the Ark. The Ark Episode 3 broke wide open the mystery of Lt. Garnet. Jasper had a memory card with a recording of her beating some guy up in a bar and slitting his throat with a broken beer bottle. Combined with her assistance in the mess hall in Episode 2, she has some questions to answer. Lt. Lane had never been a fan of hers. The two bumped heads, but they looked like they were finally finding common ground. Having seen Jasper’s recording, he is back to wondering who he is sharing command with. What he will do with this information, we don’t know yet, but I imagine he will loop in Lt. Brice.

Lt. Brice has secrets of his own. The flying legend is perhaps the best pilot the GSA has ever had. Why he was transferred to Navigation then is odd. Dr. Kabir wants to do an exam to get baseline information because his medical file was corrupted, and he refuses, pointing at the asteroid rocketing toward them. This isn’t his only motivation. More than likely, something in those records precluded him from piloting anymore. Does he have a death wish? Does he have a medical condition that should keep him out of the cockpit? He’s dodging Dr. Kabir now, but he won’t be able to forever.

Meanwhile, the stress of being the only doctor on board and too little sleep has taken its toll on Dr. Kabir. She can’t keep going at this pace, and by the end of The Ark Episode 3, we know how she is coping. Unfortunately, the doomsday partiers aren’t the only ones taking meds. What was once played for laughs is now a crisis. Hopefully, someone will recognize what she is doing before it becomes a significant problem.

Trent Baylor is also hiding something. He isn’t as dumb as he pretends to be. What was he looking at on Alicia’s tablet? He and Alicia share a tender moment when he gives her a pep talk, but I wonder how much of that is to gain her trust. Angus also likes Alicia and might be the better pick. He is clever and sweet. Angus also appears to be one of the few people on the ship without secrets. He thinks about problems differently than the others as well, which makes him valuable as more than a farmer. Additionally, Angus controls one of the few weapons on board. An explosion helped save the ship in The Ark Episode 3, but it could also be used to destroy it in later episodes.

Felix and Kat are quickly becoming the most intriguing characters. The two don’t get a ton of screen time, and yet it feels as if every moment is integral to the story. Every interaction conveys a wealth of subtle information. Felix(Pavle Jerinic) has depth to him and medical experience that could be useful. At the same time, Cat(Christina Wolfe) is an opportunistic mess of a human who also is so intuitive it is scary.

I am very curious about this genetic diversity and couples on board the Ark rule. It is twice now that we have heard diversity used as an excuse why couples couldn’t be on the same ship. Ava is right to question that as a valid rule. She wasn’t related to Harris. Nor would any of the other couples be genetically related. So what is the real reason behind the restriction of couples? Is there something Trust isn’t telling everyone? Garnet seems almost superhuman. Is it possible she has been genetically modified? If so, are there others? Were the crew and passengers chosen because of their compatibility with the modified humans? We will have to wait to see how these things develop.

For now, the asteroid that turned out to be a comet gave them all of the water they needed. The ship and all of the major systems are working again. Everyone is getting along, but the pieces have already been put in place for the next serious problem to rear its head. Trouble is brewing on the Ark I. A killer is still on the loose.
